France's Veja is without a doubt one of the most ethical and responsible shoemakers around. The brand was founded in 2005 by childhood friends Sébastien Kopp and François Morillion, who shared not only a passion for sneakers but also for environmental and ethical causes. The duo refer to Veja as a "project" that looks beyond the beautiful appearance of the finished product to include what went in to making it, whether it be raw materials, working conditions or how the completed shoe is delivered to the customer.
