In 1982, the Italian textile engineer Massimo Ostis established Stone Island. Ostis was joined by Carlo Rivetti who later took over the brand and is still the chief designer today. Stone Island is strongly associated with its removable patches, adorned with the iconic compass that symbolises love for the sea and the brand's forward thinking research.
The brand's collections are military-inspired and made with endless textile research, which gives each garment a perfect combination between innovative textile research and usability. They are well known for their garment-dye processes, where different materials are combined so that the colour adheres in different ways and thus creating unique garments.
