Tod's is the name behind what may be the world's most well-known driving shoe, Gommino. A classic, supple and comfortable model that can be credited with putting the driving shoe firmly on the map, perhaps due to its being a favourite of Italian businessman and style icon Giovanni Agnelli, but more likely thanks to its impeccable quality.
The brand was founded in 1978 by entrepreneur Diego Della Valle, who came from a long line of shoemakers who, amongst other things supplied footwear to world-famous department store Saks Fifth Avenue in New York. It was in this same city that Diego found the inspiration for Tod's best-selling Gommino shoe. With a simply-constructed Portuguese driving shoe in his suitcase, he returned to Italy and set about establishing what was to become driving shoe Tod's very first model.
