The Kånken was launched by Fjällräven in 1978 and was designed to take the strain off Swedish schoolchildren’s backs. The name comes from the Swedish verb ‘kånka’, which means to carry a heavy load, and from its roots in Örnsköldsvik in northern Sweden, the model has developed into one of the world’s most iconic rucksacks.
