Merrell

Together with shoemaker Randy Merrell, Clark Matis and John Schweizer founded the brand Merrell in 1981, with the ambition to create hiking boots that combined performance, comfort, and accessibility. The trio wanted to merge Merrell’s traditional craftsmanship – then known for its handmade specialty boots – with Matis’ and Schweizer’s technical expertise, to develop shoes that matched the quality of custom-made models but were adapted for life in the outdoors.

Today, the range has expanded to include clothing and accessories, where technical precision and functional design remain central. The focus is on durability, grip, and comfort tailored for demanding terrain, but also on versatility – products that work just as well in everyday life as in the mountains.
