Caran d'Ache

For over 100 years, Caran d’Ache has been manufacturing exclusive writing instruments in Geneva with a focus on precision, craftsmanship and innovative design. The brand was founded in 1915 under the name Fabrique Genevoise de Crayons and received its current name in 1924 at the initiative of then-owner Arnold Schweitzer. The name Caran d’Ache is a tribute to the Russian-French satirical illustrator Emmanuel Poiré – and comes from the Russian word for pencil.

As a fourth-generation family-owned company, Caran d’Ache proudly carries the Swiss Made label – a guarantee of the highest quality at every stage, from the drawing board to the finished product. The brand combines tradition with technical innovation and has been behind groundbreaking inventions such as the world’s first mechanical pencil and water-soluble coloured pencils.
