About Yacht-Master
The Yacht-Master arrived in 1992, first in 18 carat gold as reference 16628, and was the first Rolex tied explicitly to sailing. Its bidirectional bezel carries raised, polished numerals against a matt ground and counts both elapsed and remaining time. Oyster case and Oyster bracelet are shared with the Submariner, but the edges are softer and the surfaces more highly finished.
The steel version with a platinum bezel followed in 1999, and the model has been made in 40, 37 and 35 millimetres. Water resistance is 100 metres, enough for the deck and for swimming but not for diving. The Yacht-Master is the sports model in which the house leans furthest towards the formal – a sailing watch with the character of jewellery.
