About Luminor
Panerai was founded in Florence in 1860 and, through the first half of the twentieth century, supplied the Italian navy's combat divers with instruments and watches. The Luminor took shape in the 1940s and was named after the luminous compound Panerai patented as a replacement for radium. Its unmistakable signature is the patented crown-protecting bridge with locking lever, which secures water resistance and makes the silhouette recognisable from a distance.
The cushion-shaped case, often a generous 44 millimetres, and the pared-back dial with large luminous markers carry the legacy of the military years. The Luminor is made today in a wide range of executions – from timeless three-hand models to GMT and chronographs – and remains the very core of Panerai's identity.
