A home among the pine treetops – Meet the designer Arvid Nilsson

A creator with a calm voice

Arvid describes his work with a serene certainty. He calls himself a designer, even though it encompasses a breadth that is rooted in graphic design. Over time, his expression has moved increasingly closer to interiors, furniture, sculptures, and art. It all began in his own home, driven by a desire to create things that felt personal and thoughtful.

When he couldn't find what he was looking for, he took matters into his own hands. Today, almost every piece of his home bears traces of that exploration. From loosely sketched ideas on paper, through meticulously developed digital drafts, to the production and placement of the physical furniture in his home. A process that takes time, but where each moment is an equally important part of the journey.

The Inspiration for Personal Style

Inspiration comes from many directions, but Arvid often returns to simplicity where clear shapes and high-quality materials are allowed to shine in their purity. This same mindset also characterizes his personal clothing style, which can be described as stripped-down, almost minimalist. Great care is taken in choosing the right pieces. Garments that harmonize with the existing wardrobe, creating both versatility and longevity while still possessing a clear identity where the details are in the right place. Just as he decorates both of his homes, even though they express themselves very differently.

Where thoughts take shape and the feeling of coming home

To nurture his creativity and create, he needs peace. He finds it partly in Stockholm, where he now lives, but especially in Västervik, where he grew up. It was also there that the idea of having his own place began to take shape. Talltopp came to life during the pandemic, a time when the world came to a standstill and the need to be close to family became clearer. This led to an impulsive purchase of an old crew cabin, from which there are no traces left today.

Creating Something from Scratch

Despite Talltop's small size, the process followed the same rhythm as building a large house. Arvid and his partner stripped everything down, measured every surface, and drew sketches that evolved layer by layer. The plywood was sourced carefully, all windows were custom ordered, and every detail ultimately results from both curiosity and precision.

Today, Talltopp has become a place that finds its core in tranquility. It is a return to the nature Arvid grew up in, to the forests where he played as a child and built forts. Now, another kind of fort stands here, an architect-designed version made of high-quality materials, but with the same feeling of freedom and coming home.

The Quiet Rituals of Winter

Pine Top changes with the seasons, but the foundation remains. The dense pine forest retains its green depth even as the snow falls, transforming the ground into a soft winter landscape. Celebrating Christmas here means allowing everything to slow down. Waking up without haste, letting breakfast take its time. Chopping down a small tree in the forest and bringing it home, even if the space barely allows for it. Inviting a friend over for coffee, sharing conversations about the year that has passed and what is to come.

Talltopp is in many ways an extension of Arvid himself, a place where simplicity speaks and where tranquility is part of the entire experience.
