Shorts
Shorts can be a part of both casual and more formal ensembles. There is a stubborn myth that says that “real men” don’t wear shorts. This could not be further from the truth. Shorts are an intrinsic part of any man’s basic wardrobe – with pairs in beige cotton, grey or navy-blue khaki, blue denim and black denim, you have all you need.
Shorts come in a wide range of colours and lengths, with the optimal length for most occasions being a pair that stop just above the knee. This creates a balanced look that exudes timeless elegance. Shorter models, reaching as far as the upper thigh, make for a sportier look. Shorts that reach past the knee and even partway down the calf, on the other hand, have a tendency to make even the tallest men look shorter and wider.
Shorts pair particularly well with Oxford or denim shirts, together with driving shoes, boat shoes or espadrilles. With the exception of ultra-no-show variants, socks should never be worn together with shorts. For everyday wear, wearing shorts with socks sticking out of your shoes is always something of a faux pas. For sportier activities, however, it is of course completely fine to wear socks with your shoes and shorts. When wearing shorts, extra care should be taken when choosing accessories as they will make a bigger visual impact and have a much more prominent role in your ensemble as a whole. A well-appointed belt and a high-quality wristwatch are particularly effective in enhancing your style.
