Field jackets are another of the many styles with military origins. Contemporary versions are mostly inspired by the classic M65 army jacket, another product of Alpha Industries. The M65 model has also been reinterpreted by a number of fashion brands, who often go as far as to include “M65” in the model name.
The classic field jacket should be long enough to cover the behind. Many more exclusive interpretations also retain these classic proportions. A sufficiently long field jacket comes into its own when worn over both blazers and suits, creating a contemporary and casual look. Along with the classic army green, navy blue is a great choice of colour in this context.
More modern variations on the field jacket have been shortened to almost waist-length while retaining the original’s sewn-on pockets. This makes for a trendier variant, while the shorter length means the jacket can be casually slung over a jumper or shirt, letting you express your style in many different ways.
For a smart yet casual look, combine the jacket with high-waisted trousers and a tucked-in popover shirt, complemented by suede brogues. When paired with jeans, a white t-shirt or Oxford shirt together and white sneakers, it instead takes on a contemporary, minimalist feel.
